[ 02 · ABOUT ]

ABOUT ADD TEXT.

Sometimes a PDF just needs one more line of text added somewhere — a date stamp, a note to a colleague, a filled-in blank on a form that doesn't have real interactive form fields, an address on a template letter. minipdftoosz's Add Text tool lets you click a position on any page and type directly onto it, with control over font size and color, then bakes that text permanently into the page's content via pdf-lib.

This is distinct from filling out an interactive PDF form (that's what Fill PDF Forms is for) — Add Text works on any PDF, form or not, by drawing new text content directly onto the page at whatever coordinates you choose. It's the digital equivalent of writing directly on a printed page with a pen, except the result stays perfectly legible, resizable in terms of font choice before you commit, and — unlike ink on paper — completely undoable by simply starting over with a fresh upload if you're not happy with placement.

Because the added text becomes real vector text embedded in the page (not a rasterized image of text), it stays sharp at any zoom level, remains selectable and searchable in the final document, and prints exactly as crisply as the PDF's original text. This matters for anything beyond a purely cosmetic annotation — text added this way behaves, structurally, exactly like text that was in the document from the start.

Common uses include annotating a PDF you received with a quick note before forwarding it, adding a signature line's printed name beneath where you'll later add a drawn signature, stamping a received-date onto an incoming document, or filling in a blank on an older scanned form that has no real interactive fields at all — just visual blank space where an answer belongs.

If you find yourself adding the same text in the same relative position across many similar documents — a recurring stamp, a standard note — it's worth double-checking whether Add Page Numbers or Add Watermark might already cover that specific repeated case more efficiently, since both apply automatically across every page rather than needing manual placement each time.

Anyone annotating a received document before forwarding it, or filling a blank on an older form with no real interactive fields, relies on Add Text for exactly that kind of quick, precise, one-off addition that doesn't require a full form-filling workflow to accomplish.

★ QUICK TIPS
  • Place text carefully — since it becomes permanent embedded content, review the position before finalizing rather than after.
  • For a PDF with real interactive form fields (checkboxes, text boxes built into the file), Fill PDF Forms is the more appropriate tool.
  • Font size and color are adjustable before you commit, so match the surrounding document's style if it matters for the final look.

FAQ.

Common questions about add text. Something else on your mind? Ask us.

Is it really free?

Yes. Free forever. No sign-up. No credit card. No trial.

Do you upload my files?

Never. Everything runs locally in your browser using JavaScript and WebAssembly.

What is the max file size?

Only limited by your browser’s memory. Most laptops handle 100MB+ with ease; very large files may be slower.

Does it work offline?

Once the page and its tool script have loaded, yes — processing runs entirely client-side.
