ABOUT RESIZE PAGES.
Not every PDF arrives at the page size you actually need — a document formatted for US Letter that needs to become A4 for an international recipient, or a page laid out at a custom size that needs to conform to a standard format before printing somewhere with fixed paper stock. minipdftoosz's Resize Pages tool changes a PDF's page dimensions to a new target size (standard formats like A4 and Letter, or custom dimensions), scaling page content to fit via pdf-lib.
Resizing necessarily involves a scaling decision: content designed for one page size doesn't map onto a differently-proportioned page without either stretching (distorting the original aspect ratio), letterboxing (fitting within the new size while preserving proportions, leaving some margin), or cropping (filling the new size while preserving proportions, at the cost of clipping some edge content). The tool aims for a sensible default scaling behavior that preserves proportions rather than stretching, which is almost always the visually correct choice for text-heavy documents.
The most common real-world trigger is an international document exchange: US Letter (8.5" × 11") and A4 (210mm × 297mm) are close in size but not identical, and a document formatted for one can print with slightly awkward margins — or literally get parts clipped — on printers loaded with the other. Resizing to the recipient's expected standard avoids that friction entirely, producing a document that prints cleanly on whatever paper stock they actually have loaded.
Resize Pages is a page-dimension change, not a content-editing tool — text, images, and layout scale together as a unit rather than being individually repositioned or reflowed, which is the correct behavior for preserving a document's visual design while adapting its overall size. For documents where content genuinely needs to reflow (not just rescale) into a different page shape, no tool in this set attempts that — reformatting logic that complex is generally a job for the original authoring software.
If the document contains a mix of portrait and landscape pages — common in reports with an embedded wide table or chart — resizing to a single target size affects each page according to its own original proportions, so check a sample of both orientations in the result rather than assuming one page's outcome represents the whole document.
Anyone exchanging documents internationally — US Letter versus A4 being the classic mismatch — or preparing a document for a specific printer's expected paper size, is the typical user of Resize Pages.
- US Letter and A4 are the two most common target sizes for international document exchange — pick whichever matches your recipient's region.
- Scaling preserves proportions by default, avoiding the distortion that simple stretching would introduce.
- This changes page dimensions, not content layout — for documents that need genuine reflow into a different shape, the original source file/software is the better tool.
